Top Ten Books For Island Vacations

Reading is a favorite pastime for many, and vacation is an especially great time to break into a good story and escape reality. Here are some of my top adventure books to bring on any dive trip, beach getaway, snorkeling or island vacation.

Island Vacation Books

  1. Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson
A based-on-fact story about the discovery of a WWII German U-boat in the Atlantic ocean, off the coast of New Jersey.  This book will remind even the most avid divers to take proper precautions when SCUBA diving.
  2. The Last Dive by Bernie Chowdhury
“A Father and Son’s Fatal Descent into the Ocean’s Depths”. Another story about the WWII German U-boat in the Atlantic ocean.  Another fine reminder of setting goals, limits and balancing thrill-seeking with the passion for extreme sports.
  3. Below by Ryan Lockwood
Frightening, entertaining, and absolutely worth a read if you love science, marine animals and SCUBA diving.  The perspective of the book keeps it interesting.
  4. What Lurks Beneath by Ryan Lockwood
Another fantastic ocean adventure that takes marine science, ROVs, tourists and marine life to a new level. Once again, frightening and entertaining at the same time.

Adventure with treasure hunting and pirates?  Yes, please.  Non-fiction book, full of historical tidbits.
