Something Fishy & Odd is in the Water

Freshwater diving can offer some interesting sights for any scuba diver. It’s not rare to see man-made things at the bottom of the lake – beer cans, trash, fishing line, etc. Every now and then, a diver may see something awry, which makes them wonder “what happened here, exactly?”.

Spring Trout Massacre

Sadly, this is not the first time divers have happened upon what appears to be a trout tragedy. Several trout carcasses dumped in one area does raise curiosities:

Did someone…

  • Fall out of their kayak/canoe/paddleboard with a bucket of fish?
  • See the park ranger coming and quickly dump evidence of illegal fishing?
  • Make an offering to the Crawdad King?
  • Seek a childhood vengeance upon a specific trout species?
  • Or,
  • was there some kind of “event”?

Winter Fish Massacre

In the middle of winter, where boats were likely not involved (but maybe a kayak/canoe/paddleboard/belly boat), divers spotted a similar occurrence:

More Than a Trout

Dumped trout creels are one thing, but there are also other fish (perhaps a walleye?) which was among the other “dumped” fish.

What’s Going On?

When we begin as divers, many of us certify so that we may see the glorious wildlife. Divers are indeed spotting wildlife. However, the disappointment lies in seeing our wildlife, dead. The circle of life is natural, but sights like this seem less so.
